Beginners Yoga

To get the most out of your yoga practice and to feel confident in attempting more challenging postures, it is important that you start with a strong foundation.
A Beginners Yoga class at Calm aims to teach all the fundamentals to those who are completely new to yoga or to those wanting a gentle paced class. We will learn the importance of functional mobility based movement rather than creating fancy shapes or poses. This way you will have the foundation for a lifelong practice that can help to create balance in both the physical body and nervous system.

There is no need to be nervous, because everyone has to start somewhere. The focus is on listening to your body and moving in a way that works for you, not how anyone else looks.

Yoga Stretch

Come wind down your mind and body with this gentle hour of stretching and releasing. We’ll ease into a mixture of both active and passive postures to help melt away muscular tension and improve flexibility, whilst staying connected to our breath to soothe our nervous system.

If we only spend time tightening our muscles without finding balance with stretches too, this can make our bodies more vulnerable to injuries, pain and overall discomfort. This fusion of a hatha, yin and restorative yoga practice is suitable for everyone, particularly great for athletes, those with sedentary jobs or those simply looking for a slower practice.

Join us for a steady-paced vinyasa flow to open your body followed by a grounding restorative sequence to calm your central nervous system. Perfect for when you want the combined benefits of both our regular more active yoga classes and our relaxing restorative yoga classes. Suitable for all levels including beginners, this class will leave you completely relaxed.

Yoga

Yoga is a holistic approach of uniting the body, mind and spirit and is suitable for those with some experience of yoga. Practicing Yoga will assist you in creating a harmonious balance within your body and mind.
 
Most of our teachers are trained in modern vinyasa yoga, this is a fluid movement-based class, the class will be different depending on each teacher.
 
Our studio offers variations designed to suit all needs with focus on postures, alignment, breathing techniques and flow of movement. Our highly trained teachers will guide you through your yoga class with modifications and adaptations, helping you to develop fitness, flexibility, balance, and a mind, body and spirit connection.
Hot yoga class

Hot Yoga

Hot Yoga is open to all abilities, and involves an energetic vinyasa flow class in a room heated with infrared heaters to 31-35 degrees. Our infrared heaters provide a sweet sweat that mimics the feeling of exercising outdoors on holiday in a hot climate. During the class your muscles will lengthen as you work through the continuous flow of different movements and postures. This class will leave you feeling energised and mentally restored, the perfect way to start or end your day! If you get too hot take a break and sit or find child's pose. You will get used to the heat the more often you come. Not recommended for pregnant women or children under 16. Bring a towel to cover your mat and don't forget to bring water as it is important to stay hydrated in the heat.

Yoga Pilates Fusion

We often get asked if yoga or pilates is right for someone. Our Yoga/Pilates Fusion class blends together the best parts of both Yoga and Pilates into an hour long class, combining the core stabilisation and movement patterns of Pilates with the traditional poses and flows of Yoga. It will strengthen, stretch and relax your body and mind, leaving your feeling invigorated and relaxed. This class is suitable for all levels as modifications and adaptations will be offered. The perfect class for if you are unsure which class to try or if you want the benefits of both practices within a single session.

Ashtanga Yoga

This dynamic and physically demanding practice involves many sequences or vinyasas with a number of challenging poses that aim to synchronise the breath and body movements. This hour-long condensed primary series flow class is excellent for building core strength, toning your body, improving mobility, and focussing the mind. Your yoga teacher will guide you carefully through the same sequence of postures each week, helping you to advance in your practice.

Let go of the day and come back home to yourself. A gentle, restorative class for all abilities that will stretch out your tension and find stillness within. Using guided meditations and relaxing yoga Nidra, this class will help you float your way home to peaceful night’s sleep.
Yin yoga stretch

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a slow- paced style of yoga, which involves melting into a reclined or seated position and holding these poses for 3 minutes or more. These postures are supported by props, which enable you to stretch out the muscles and tissues around your joints, combatting tension in a subtle but unique way, that might not be possible in more energetic yoga classes.

You will be guided through Several short meditation practices and finish the class with a deeply relaxing Nidra (yogic sleep)
